The Smell of Citrus is in the Air
This is the commercial for UC to air during the Orange Bowl on Thursday. I am a big 'ol sap. I got a little teary-eyed watching this earlier this afternoon. This is my school. This is my hometown. It's great to be back, doing what I have always wanted to do, in my hometown. I will not leave again.

Can't Wait

....For this. Okay, so maybe some background info is needed here. About 2 years ago, my squishy self decided I wanted to make my great return to the pool since almost a decade earlier. At first it was terrible, providing me a heart-wrenching blow to my ego. We all relive our glory days, knowing, just knowing, that, should we choose to return to our sport, we could pick up right where we left off. But I did return, only to find that I could barely swim 25M without looking like I was drowning. Thanks to a lifeguard at the YMCA, I kept up and by last summer, I was swimming over 70 laps, sometimes twice a day. I didn't lose weight, but I sure felt better.
I kept swimming anywhere I could...The YMCA lap lanes, the community pool. Some of it was comical. Picture me in full garb: competition suit, cap, goggles, force gloves. Surrounded by senior citizens who do not want their hair to get wet and small children with their mommies. I will never, ever forget the old man who said to me "Nice rack, sweetheart" as I waited for him to quit floating in my lap lane.
So this link, the one I provided at the start of this post, is the University of Cincinnati Recreation Center's pools. Yes, the plural was intentional. And they shall be mine, all mine because access is free to students. I have the greatest intentions. I can see swimming laps after class before heading home. Add this to my work routine and study schedule, but do not ask me when I plan on sleeping. I haven't figured that part out yet. You can add that one to the Questions-Not-To-Be-Asked List, right along with this one: Andrea, where are you going to get the courage to parade around in a swimsuit amidst 18-22 year old girls??? I don't want to think of that one either, as I have no answer other than that the sweats and tee will stay on all the way until I am completely submerged.
But in the meantime, this all shall be mine. All 50 sparkling meters of chlorinated excellence. In the words of my hubby: "OooooRAHHHHHH!"

How 'Bout Dem Cardinals? Dem Bearcats?

Okay, so at one time, I was a student a lovely Ball State, which we lovingly called "Testical Tech". Gotta love that cheer: "BALL-U..and U..and U and U and U...." Haha! The first pic up there is a pic of their marching band, The Pride of Mid-America, of which I was once a part. Didn't know that, did ya? I played flute. I distinctly remember freezing my arse off in the stands waiting to take the field for halftime, and I still to this day remember the words to the fight song, because we had to sing it, accompanied by a drum cadence. Anyhow...The Cardinals are still undefeated. Go Ball U!Then there is UC, my new school, from my hometown, making their play for the Big East title. Forget my earlier post.....It isn't just great to be a Buckeye. It's great to be a Buckeye-Cardinal-Bearcat! God, I love college football!

This is Sparta
5 In a Row For the First Time
My boys did exactly what they were supposed to do today. The first quarter scared me just a bit. But they smashed those asses from Michigan once again. This makes our streak against the Armpit of America 5 years running. It's great to be a Buckeye, especially today.I must admit some sadness as we face losing Laurinaitis. He has been my favorite for years.
Here are some of the statements shouted during the game in my living room:
"Run, Beanie, Run!!!!"
"Bye Rodriguez." (John hates losing to OSU!)
"Who has the ball? Who has the ball???? Is that Morgan Freeman? Oh wait...He's an actor! I meant Marcus Freeman!"
"They missed the field goal???? They can't even make a field goal??? It's right there!"
"Andrea, they cannot hear you through the damned television!"
Again, I leaked around the orbitals just a bit. John hates losing to OSU, and therefore to me. But I sure do love when my boys beat Michigan!

Please Explain This To Me

Okay. In order, these are the rankings right now. For the Big Ten: #1 Michigan State. #2 Penn State. #3 Ohio State.WTF? Why does Michigan State outrank my boys when we clearly BEAT THEM??? I can understand record, and all of that business. But wouldn't one think that the better team would have won the match-up? I do not understand football ranking. This pisses me off. There went the Rose Bowl over this stupid crap.

Ha. Another One Bites the Dust

I know some people who are not so happy this Sunday. I refer you to the scores for Saturday's games. This is my fave, of course, despite the fact that my husband insisted it was not going to happen. Even though he is a UM fan, yesterday he was pulling for the Spartans. But this one made it a pretty damned good day for me also. I love football season.

Grrrrrr. Michigan Fans.
It has already started. A friend on a Corpsman.com managed to go and change the OSU stuff on my profile to Michigan stuff. I hate Michigan with every bone in my body, in ways only someone from Ohio can fathom. Last year there was a bet between us on who would win. I won, and the payout was interesting. We''ll see what this football season has in store. I don't think my heart can take another wasted trip to the BCS championship . The past 2 years about broke my heart and my wrecked my pride. But anyhow, it's that time again, kiddies. All Buckeyes love this time of year. It's in our DNA.
